Exercise 3: Kinetic Typography

So for this exercise, we were tasked to make some sort of edit using my favorite software (After Effects) and the type of edit we are going to make is a Typography kind of edit where basically we put some movements and a little bit of graphics to texts which is basically called Kinetic Typography.

Process

Before i start, i went ahead and play the song that was chosen by my group over and over again until it got stuck on my head, then i look up some reference on Instagram to maybe help me pitch some ideas for me and for my group.

Editing:

Here i am making the first part where its just a text and nulls to play around with the scales and positions. I also made a some sort of shake kind of thing to create like jiggle effect.

This part is just adding some adjustment layer on top of the text and apply the effect "Transform" and "Invert" to create a glitch effect.

This part is where i put a glitchy text effect for the text and i use the effect "Fill" to make it red.

Here i added a clip from the original music video and apply the effect "Gradient Wipe" to make like an opacity transition then i added a null to make a zoom out transition.

Before i made the zoom in transition, i masked out the clip from the eye using a circular shape and then make 2 shapes and use scale and keyframes to make them zooming and then add some glow. After the zoom in transition, i made another zoom to the eye to make a masking transition to a text.

After that, i made another zoom and using the Gradient Wipe effect to make an opacity transition to another clip.

Then i use opacity and position to slip this in from the previous clip and play around with the position until the camera movement becomes smooth.

This part is just some simple position and masking

The rest of the video is just some simple transition using scale to zoom in slowly

Exercise 4: Bar chart

For this assignment, we were tasked to make some sort of animation of a chart and in this case, the lecturer assigned me to animate a bar chart using the data that was provided.

Process

For this its pretty much straight forward, i just need to remake the chart and the data that comes with it and animate it.

First, i used the shape tool to make a rectangle and move the anchor point to the bottom, then i copied it according to the original chart and tweak the scale by unbinding them to enable me to adjust the height and width separately.

For the effects i use a plugin called Deep Glow to give some brightness and for the shiny metal effect i use CC Light Sweep and make the tint white then i play around with the keyframe to give some more detail.

The movement for the bar itself is using scale to adjust only the height.

This part is very straight forward because all i did was create a solid and use pen tool to make a mask for the line and use 3d Stroke to actually create the line and animate it by playing around with End part by using keyframes. Then i copied it multiple times and adjusted the Thickness.

For the numbers and titles i just create a text layer, rotate it to -90 and use a letter reveal text animation.

After finishing all of above i grouped it together and connect it to a null and use some keyframes to play with the scale.

Final Result:

Exercise 5: Vector Animation
